Bryan Fuller Talks Season 2

His segment begins about halfway through the podcast. WARNING: Bryan talks about what’s coming up in season 2, so spoilerphobes beware! Some highlights are under the cut.
- The impending strike truncated some of the storylines that were meant to spread over the course of a longer season.
- They finished writing the last episode (”Corpsicle“) in 12 hours to make the deadline for the WGA strike.
- Depending when the strike ends, production on season 2 could start as early as mid-June; Bryan hopes to have an episode to show at ComiCon in July to relaunch the series.
- Bryan suggests sending daisies to ABC to let them know we want more episodes.
- The cast is close in real life; Swoosie Kurtz and Ellen Greene joined Bryan for Christmas. The strike has allowed the cast to spend more time together off the set. They get together for dinner to celebrate the various awards.
- Congratulations to Chi McBride and his wife on their new baby!
- Look for Olive to be in a “Death Race 2000″ horse race in season 2.
- Kristin was recovering from her fall - with three broken ribs! - while filming “Girth“.
- Bryan talks about all the “naughty” lines they get away with.
- The show doesn’t cost as much as many other hour-long dramas; ABC insisted that the budget be increased in order to get a full season order.
- Ned’s costumes are purposely in muted blacks and greys to keep him the calm center of the show.
- Bryan plans to bring us more of the Darling Mermaid Darlings, and some of their rivals in the swimming world, in season 2.
- The cliffhanger reveal that Lily is Chuck’s mother will be a “rich, complicated” story arc in season 2.
- We’ll see Lily and Vivian be more open in season 2, more of their secrets will be revealed, and we’ll even see love interests introduced for them!
- Look for more of Emerson’s pop-up book fascination and “taking career steps with that”. (!)
